Jason Matlo, Creative Director of Matlo Atelier, is a Canadian fashion designer who has been in the business for fifteen years and has become internationally renowned for his glamorous red carpet gowns. Upon completion of design school, he was invited to compete in the prestigious Smirnoff Fashion Awards competition where industry experts honoured him top designer of the year. He later went on to represent Canada at the international finals in Berlin, Germany.

Jason was the winner of the Life Network reality television show Making It Big which awarded him the opportunity to display his collection in Saks Fifth Avenue and receive mentorship from their marketing and buying teams.

Responding to the demand these successes created, Matlo launched his first commercially available collection in 2005 which was immediately recognized by the Canadian fashion industry with editorial coverage in ElleFlare, Hello and other fashion publications.

Known in the industry for excellence in craftsmanship and strong design, Matlo’s collections were bought and housed in top retailers across Canada and the United States, including The Room within the Hudson’s Bay department store, where Jason’s collections were featured alongside Balmain, Armani, Maison Margiela and Comme des Garçons

Synonymous with sexy and sophisticated evening wear, Matlo has created designs for celebrities including Sara Ramirez (Grey’s Anatomy), Kristanna Loken (Terminator 3), R & B Singer Mya, Susan Lucci (All My Children), Gabrielle Miller (Corner Gas), Camille Sullivan (Intelligence), Erin Karpluk (Being Erica), Erin Cebula (ET Canada) and Anne Heche (The Brave).

Jason Matlo’s creations have been showcased on the red carpets of the Academy Awards, People’s Choice Awards, Cannes and Toronto film festivals and most recently on the television show Supergirl.

With a renewed interest in haute couture, Jason rebranded his fashion company in 2019 and restructured as a bespoke made to measure company under the name Matlo Atelier Vancouver. The atelier is dedicated to offering one of a kind, made-to-measure design with couture fits and finishes in women’s and men’s fashion. In Fall 2019, Jason Matlo released his new bespoke collection “French Kiss” as a representation of the work currently being created within the boutique fashion atelier.
